L-Citrulline DL-Malate 2:1 is a salt made up of two L-Citrulline molecules bound to one Malic acid molecule. L-Citrulline is a naturally occurring α-amino acid which is a key intermediate in mammalian biochemical and metabolic processes, including the urea cycle. Its nomenclature derives from the Latin name of the watermelon fruit (Citrullus vulgaris) - where, interestingly, its concentration exceeds 2mg per gram of fresh watermelon. Malic acid, a dicarboxylic acid found in all living organisms, is a key factor in the biosynthesis of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate, the universal cellular energy carrier molecule), through its role in the citric acid cycle. The combination salt, L-Citrulline DL-Malate, is the most researched form of L-Citrulline, and the ratio of two to one is generally preferred by athletes because it optimizes the mass of L-Citrulline delivered per serving.
L-Citrulline is often also considered a kind of camouflaged, enhanced efficacy Arginine supplement, due to its rapid conversion into Arginine by the kidneys after consumption. Unlike most known forms of Arginine, its absorption is not restricted by the Arginine transporter in the intestinal tract, and thus L-Citrulline has significantly reduced (if any) gastrointestinal side effects in comparison to Arginine, even consumed at doses exceeding 15 grams! Arginine, and by extension L-Citrulline, are often supplemented to increase bloodflow through their enhancement of nitric oxide (NO), (which is a small cell signalling molecule that promotes vasodilation and can thus benefit a wide range of human activity). Through this pathway, research indicates that L-Arginine and L-Citrulline may help boost aerobic and anaerobic exercise performance, erection quality, and even healthy growth hormone release.
L-Citrulline supplementation dose-dependently increases L-Citrulline content in the body; whilst the accompanying Arginine concentration is generally doubled to tripled in a less dose-dependent manner at L-Citrulline serving sizes above 80mg/kg (approximately equivalent to the consumption of 6 grams of L-Citrulline for the average adult). L-Citrulline DL-Malate has been found to increase ATP production in a synergistic manner, and when athletes were given 6 grams prior to exercise, growth hormone levels were increased by over 66% compared to control athletes when measured after a workout.
This product is 200 grams [7.05 oz] of pure L-Citrulline DL-Malate 2:1, standardized to contain roughly 66% L-Citrulline and 33% Malic Acid at ≥99% purity in a transparent, reclosable plastic jar with an integrated Safety Seal and Shrinkband.
Also included are the certificate of analysis for the individual L-Citrulline DL-Malate batch and a 1.7cc measuring scoop which measures approximately 1000mg L-Citrulline DL-Malate. One serving is three scoops, or 3000mg.
