NAC is required for the production of an important anti-oxidant glutathione. As a supplement, it is therefore taken primarily taken for its perceived role in antioxidant production and liver detoxification.

N-Acetyl L-Cysteine supplements are also known by a few different names, including:

Supplementing with this product is likely to be safe, taken at dosages between 600–1,800 mg/day. N-Acetyl L-Cysteine may cause side effects including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation.

WARNING: Do not take N-Acetyl L-Cysteine with a class of medications called nitrates, especially Nitroglycerin.
