Negative effects of larger-than-recommended servings may include insomnia, headaches, irritability, racing heart, heart palpitations, and restlessness.

Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) is a Southeast Asian small, evergreen tree growing up to to 15 m (49 ft) tall, which has long been traditionally used as a medicinal plant in a variety of folk medicine preparations. As a supplement, the root of the plant is more commonly known as Tongkat Ali, Malaysian Ginseng, or Longjack. Different parts of Eurycoma longifolia plant have different traditional uses, but the root is said to have the most potent qualities as an aphrodisiac. Quassinoids, notorious for their bitterness, make up the most biologically active class of compounds in the root.
