Description

Choline L-Bitartrate Benefits and Uses

Choline is an essential nutrient that plays a vital role in cognitive function, memory, and overall brain health. Known for its improved bioavailability, Choline L-Bitartrate supports healthy acetylcholine levels, which are crucial for memory retention, mental clarity, and physical performance. This versatile supplement also promotes liver health and helps maintain a balanced mood.

Choline is an essential nutrient, listed so by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 1998. It is found in a number of food sources, primarily in animal products but also in some plant foods. It is metabolised into a number of different compounds, but for most supplements users, the most important is acetylcholine, for which it is the immediate chemical precursor.

Choline L-Bitartrate is the stable tartaric acid salt form of Choline. Our Choline is L (+). The L refers to one of the stereoisomeric forms (shapes) of the molecule - the one found naturally. DL-Choline Bitartrate is an inferior form, found by certain studies to have nephrotoxic effects in animal models. In the European Union, according to the Codex Alimentarius, only L-Choline Bitartrate is allowed because it is mentioned in the USP monograph. The DL form does not comply with these monographs. Moreover, according to the FDA, L-Choline Bitartrate is considered Generally Recognised As Safe (GRAS) affirmed, but the DL-form is not.

Choline L-Bitartrate offers a greatly improved version of choline in terms of efficacy and absorption. Anecdotally, it may have similar effects to other cognition-supporting compounds.

Choline L-Bitartrate is known by a number of alternative names, including:

  • 2-Hydroxy-N,N,N-trimethylethanaminium 3-carboxy-2,3-dihydroxypropanoate
  • 2-Hydroxy-N,N,N-trimethylethan-1-aminium

Scientific Consensus

Choline L-Bitartrate is a version of choline with improved bioavailability as a supplement. It helps to increase levels of acetylcholine in the brain and is taken to support healthy cognition. Further research is required to fully understand the significance of the effects and adverse effects of Choline L-Bitartrate.

Warning: There is not enough research about the safety of Choline L-Bitartrate for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Do not use this supplement if you have any underlying medical conditions.

Choline L-Bitartrate

Choline is a nutrient that's essential for many bodily functions, including brain health, nervous system function, memory, and learning. The body produces choline in the liver, but not in sufficient quantities, so it's necessary to get the rest from food. Choline works with the central nervous system to regulate nerve impulse transmissions, cell communications and muscle functioning. Choline L-Bitartrate is an orally-available form. Choline helps produce the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which plays a role in appetite, behavior, memory and mood. This supplement helps synthesize compounds essential for the health of cell membranes. Choline also has antioxidant properties that protect cells. - Supports Memory - Sharpens Focus - Improves Mood
