Baicalein (5,6,7 trihydroxyflavone) is the primary active component from the Baikal Skullcap (Blue Skullcap) and is the aglycone derivative of Baicalin. It has the chemical formula C15H10O5 and a molecular mass of 270,240 g/mol.
Baicalein Benefits and Uses
This compound has 2-3 times better efficacy (in terms of absorption) than Baicalin and is best known for its antioxidant and circulatory system-supporting effects. Anecdotally, some users report mild stress-relief and relaxing effects when using this supplement.
Baicalein is known by a number of alternative names, including:
- Scutellaria baicalensis
- Huang qin
- Scutellariae radix
- Baikal Skullcap
- Blue Skullcap
- Golden Root
Baicalein is an alkaloid compound extracted from the Skullcap plant with stronger efficacy than Baicalin. It is considered likely safe for use at the suggested serving size. Baicalein may interact with some medications, including alcohol. Do not exceed the recommended serving size.
Warning: There is not enough research about the safety of Baicalein for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Do not use this supplement if you have any underlying medical conditions – especially bleeding disorders, diabetes, hormone-sensitive conditions, or low blood pressure. Avoid use for up to 2 weeks before surgery.
