Carbomer is a generic name for a crosslinked Polyacrylic acid (PAA) with a high molecular weight. Members of this class of materials can act as highly water absorbent anionic polymers – where many side chains will lose their protons and gain a negative charge, allowing small percentage of the Carbomer to absorb much larger volumes of aqueous solutions and gel, thicken or improve their viscosity.

Carbomer 940 is a variety of Carbomer widely used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries as a thickening, suspending, and emulsifying agent, that acts as an extremely efficient rheology modifier, capable of providing high viscosity with small usage levels. This white, fluffy, and odorless powder helps to increase the viscosity and stability of a wide range of water based products, such as gels, shampoos, and lotions. Carbomer 940 is also a popular choice for suspending agents in aqueous formulations such as suspensions and emulsions, as it can help to keep particles and other ingredients suspended evenly throughout the product, helping to prevent settling and separation, leading to a more uniform and consistent product. Carbomer 940 can form sparkling clear aqueous gels or hydroalcoholic gels, is said to have properties compatible with skin health. Its short flow, non-drip properties are ideal to provide the desired texture, flow properties and body for topical applications. It can also be used as a gelling agent or suspension agent for industrial purposes where high viscosity is required. The recommended use level is 0.2 to 1.0 wt% in most applications.

This product is 500 g [8.82 Oz] of Carbomer 940 in a transparent, reclosable plastic jar with an integrated Safety Seal and Shrinkband.
