Pillar 1: AREDS Antioxidant Vitamins and Minerals
Vitamins A and E are fat soluble vitamins that play an important role in eye health. Vitamin A, in the form of Retinyl Palmitate (300 mcg), is the ester of retinol (vitamin A) and palmitic acid. As a retinoid, Retinyl Palmitate is highly bioavailable and forms part rhodopsin, a protein found in our eyes that plays an important role in supporting clear vision. Vitamin E, as D-Alpha Tocopherol (13 IU) is widely recognized for its protective antioxidant properties and its role in maintaining the integrity and structure of cell membranes. Deficiency of Vitamin E has been found to increase with age.
Ascorbyl Palmitate (30 mg) is a highly bioavailable form of Vitamin C, with potent antioxidant activity. Ascorbyl Palmitate is a fat-soluble form of vitamin C that is able to exert antioxidant protection throughout the whole retina.
Zinc and Copper are essential trace minerals known for their ability to boost antioxidant absorption and healthy vision. Zinc Citrate (19 mg) not only boosts vitamin A absorption, but also plays an important role in destroying harmful free radicals. Zinc is the second most abundant mineral in the human retina which suggests an important role in supporting long term eye health. Copper (560 mcg) is an essential mineral that supports the connectivity within the tissues of the eye and helps maintain healthy blood vessels and nerves.
Marigold Extract contains two powerful eye-protective nutrients known as Lutein (24 mg) and Zeaxanthin (5.4 mg). These carotenoid nutrients are found in high concentrations in the retina and macula. They collectively support eye health by working as a UV-filter to protect the macula against radiation and by working as free radical scavengers to reduce oxidative stress-induced damage.
Pillar 2: Fatty Acids, Vitamins and Essential Nutrients to Support Eye Health
Alpha Lipoic Acid (240 mg). ALA is a vitamin-like compound a potent antioxidant that support healthy vision by protecting retinal cells from oxidative damage. Research suggests strong supportive effects in healthy ageing.

N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine Ethyl Ester (NACET) (240 mg) is a supplement form of the amino acid cysteine. NACET is a superior form of NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine), which can is more easily bioavailable to the eye and retina, where it acts as an antioxidant source of glutathione. It is effective at protecting retinal cells against oxidative damage and supporting the eyes through the ageing process.
Selenium, as L-Selenomethionine (50 mcg), increases the absorption of Vitamin E, forms part of the potent antioxidant glutathione peroxidase is necessary for the synthesis of melanin, a storage protein for zinc, and copper in retinal cells.

Green Algae Extract is rich in Astaxanthin (7.3 mg), a red-pink color pigment that belongs to a group of chemicals called carotenoids - widely recognized for their potent antioxidant properties. Studies support the use of astaxanthin as a potent antioxidant that support cellular function by preventing cells from becoming damaged – which is promising for supporting long-term eye health.
