Kanna Extract capsules are perceived as a powerful mood-support supplement derived from the African succulent, Sceletium tortusum. It grows naturally in the Namaqualand region of South Africa and has been used for millennia by the Khoisan bushmen. Our extract contains very high concentrations of the alkaloids Mesembrine and Mesembrenone.

Anecdotally, Kanna capsules are said to produce tranquil yet improved states of mood, while acting as a mild stress-reducing supplement. Some people use Kanna extract capsules for cognition. Research has indicated that Kanna powder acts as an inhibitor of the PDE4 enzyme.

Kanna extract contains several important alkaloids. For purposes of taxonomy, scientists have given all of the Kanna-derived alkaloids the prefix: “mesembr-”. The most important alkaloids include:

Scientific Consensus

An extremely long history of use suggests that using the fermented plant is safe and effective, but does not provide sufficient proof. Further, very few studies have been conducted using a strong Kanna Extract capsules. More research is needed to fully understand the significance of the benefits and adverse effects of this supplement. There is not enough research about the safety of Kanna Extract capsules for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

allergic reaction, anxiety, chills, nausea, upset stomach, overstimulation, irritability, insomnia, rapid heartbeat, pupil dilatation, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, low mood or mood swings, headaches, and visual disturbances.

There is not enough data to say whether Kanna extract is safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women and, therefore, we recommend Kanna consumption should be avoided.
