Magnolia Bark Extract, also referred to as Houpu, Magnolia Officinalis, Saiboku-to, Honokiol, or Magnolol, is a well-known natural supplement. Anecdotally, it may have similar effects to other relaxing supplements. It contains two active alkaloids – Magnolol and Honokiol.

Description

Magnolia Bark Extract Benefits and Uses

In its traditional use, Hou pu is typically referred to as having properties to prevent the stagnation of Qi (pronounced “Chi”, meaning life-force) in the abdomen and in the chest. Today, researchers are exploring the effects of Magnolol and Honokiol on 5-HT serotonin receptors, on catecholamines, and on the GABAergic system. It is also used in research for its potential effects on bacteria in the mouth and for its effects on PPAR-γ receptors.

While Magnolia Bark Extract is anecdotally reported to be effective, the significance of its benefits will not be fully understood until further research becomes available.
