N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine (NAG, GlcNAc) is a naturally-occuring compound found in human joints and cartilage. It is a secondary amide between glucosamine and acetic acid and is ubiquitous in animals, insects, crustaceans and bacteria, where it forms an integral part of the bacterial cell wall. It consists of an amino acid bound with a sugar-like compound and forms a structural matrix.

Description

NAG is best known as a joint-support supplement for athletes or aging persons. It has been used in several studies exploring its potential to support healthy joints and bones. One essential role of NAG in the human body is to assist with the synthesis of cartilage, to cover and protect joints. It may also be useful for the synthesis of hyaluronic acid; a natural shock absorbent found in synovial fluid.

Research suggests that supplementing with NAG may help to protect and strengthen joints and to improve exercise-related inflammation. Further, it is believed by many to have immune-supporting properties.

This product is 500 g [17.34 Oz] of N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine at a guaranteed purity of 98+% in a transparent, reclosable plastic jar with an integrated Safety Seal and Shrinkband.

Also included are the certificate of analysis for the individual NAG batch and a measuring scoop.

N-Acetyl D-Glucosamine is a polysaccharide made up of glucosamine and acetic acid. N-Acetyl D-Glucosamine is a key constituent of the hyaluronic acid that lubricates joint surfaces, but its benefits go beyond joint health. It is also a crucial component of the glycoproteins in the protective mucosal layer of the intestinal tract, making it a valuable nutrient for maintaining comfortable gastrointestinal function. Glucosamine is produced from the shells of shrimp, lobster, and crabs. There has been some concern that glucosamine products might cause allergic reactions in people who are sensitive to shellfish. But allergic reactions in people with shellfish allergy are caused by the meat of shellfish, not the shell.
