Sarcosine
Sarcosine
Sarcosine (N-Methylglycine) is an amino acid and a byproduct of Glycine synthesis. It occurs naturally in proteins and muscle tissue and occurs in small quantities in most food sources - including vegetables, meats, legumes, and eggs. In the body, Sarcosine is quickly degraded into Glycine, where it is used for protein synthesis, and the synthesis of glutathione, creatine, and serine. As a dietary supplement, Sarcosine's use is growing rapidly due to emerging research on its potential uses in cognition support; particularly for memory function. Furthermore, research suggests that Sarcosine may help to support a healthy mood through its effects on NMDA receptors and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDARs). However, further research on human participants is required to fully understand the significance of these effects. Sarcosine (2-(Methylamino)acetic acid) was first synthesized in 1847. Recently, anecdotal reports on internet communities are continuing to grow, pertaining to its potential to support a strong memory and healthy cognitive functions.
